FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Santa Fe, N.M. – Today, Representative Steve Pearce (NM-02) announced his candidacy for governor of New Mexico. Rep. Pearce earned a 0% on the League of Conservation Voters’ 2016 Scorecard and in all his years in Congress has earned an overall 4% Lifetime Score. Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) Executive Director Demis Foster released the following statement in response:
“Over the past seven years, Gov. Susana Martinez and her administration have repeatedly and aggressively championed polluting industries at the expense of the health and safety of New Mexicans, our families and communities can’t afford more of the same in Rep. Steve Pearce. This approach has stalled out economic growth, and made New Mexico last in category after category measuring health and wellbeing. New Mexicans have a deeply rooted interest in protecting our air, land, water and healthy communities and we need a governor who will reflect our values across the board by investing in a more fair, sustainable economy. With a 0% score on the League of Conservation Voters’ 2016 Scorecard, Rep. Pearce has demonstrated he will put his political ideology and personal ambition ahead of our environment, economy and our families’ everyday well-being.”
