Albuquerque, NM – Today, President Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced an agreement to curb methane pollution from their respective country’s oil and gas industries in order to protect Americans and Canadians from the impacts of climate change.
Molly Sanders, Program Director of Conservation Voters New Mexico Education Fund, released the following statement in response to the announcement:
“Today’s announcement by the Obama Administration sets a new tone: the discussion is no longer whether or not to address methane pollution, it’s about how soon we can do it. This marks a strong commitment by the Administration to reduce the climate-change-inducing pollutant and its negative impact on the quality of life for thousands of New Mexicans. We thank President Obama and his Administration for taking strong action by committing to safeguards that will reduce methane pollution from existing oil and gas sources.”
