CVNM Education Fund Applauds NM State Land Office for Denying “Green Chile Project” Right-Of-Way
Project denial protects state lands and waters from pollution, and presents new obstacle for Project Jupiter
[Santa Fe] – Yesterday, the New Mexico State Land Office announced that it had denied an application from Texas-based energy company Energy Transfer for the “Green Chile Project,” a natural gas pipeline proposed to cut through state trust lands to provide natural gas for the controversial Project Juptier data center. This marks the newest hurdle for the project, which has been widely opposed for its projected water consumption and the 2GW of natural gas the facility plans to operate privately. In response, CVNM Education Fund Chief Executive Officer Demis Foster issued the following statement:
“We applaud Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard’s leadership of the New Mexico State Land Office, and her unwavering commitment to protect the public trust of our lands for future generations. Yesterday’s actions show that she is firm in standing with the people of New Mexico in their concerns and opposition to dirty and dangerous projects. The denial of the Green Chile Project right-of-way permit is clear in telling polluters that our state trust lands are not for the taking, and they must do all they can to protect our land and water from the harms of extraction. We urge other state of officials and regulators to follow in Garcia Richard’s footsteps in critically analyzing the harms of the Project Jupiter proposal, and denying all future permitting proposals.”
