Santa Fe, N.M. – Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt announced a proposed rule to revoke the Clean Power Plan.
In response, Conservation Voters New Mexico Executive Director Demis Foster released the following statement:
“It is critical that we take action to address climate change and the Clean Power Plan is a very positive step in the right direction. Administrator Pruitt’s efforts to revoke the Clean Power Plan will harm New Mexicans,” says Demis Foster, Executive Director of Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM). “The Clean Power Plan positively impacts clean air for communities across New Mexico. In addition to reducing carbon pollution from coal and natural gas burning power plants in Northwest New Mexico, the Clean Power Plan would shift control of energy decisions and sourcing to local communities who should have energy sovereignty. The Clean Power Plan also means investment in renewable energy and good and green jobs for families in New Mexico. By repealing the Clean Power Plan, Scott Pruitt and the Trump administration are rigging the system for big polluters at the expense of our health and safety.”
