Why do you participate with Juntos?
I am interested in protecting the health of Latino families and
looking for opportunities for the community to amplify their voices.

What have you learned while organizing with the community for environmental
justice?
That the community is the main axis in question to advocate for our interests, and if we are united we can reach our individual and collective goals.

What is your favorite book?
“A Brief History of Time”

What is your favorite thing that you have done while participating with Juntos?
Facilitating the workshop of the third generation of promotores.

If someone donated a million dollars to
Juntos, what should we do with it?
See the interests of the program to realize the
collective goals of our members in our
community, such as Community Solar Garden, or a spectacular garden of organic products within reach of our people.

What is one thing you want to learn to do?
Communicate 100% in English to be able to talk face to face with politicians.

What do you want for your community?
My leadership and commitment as a mother, wife and a person interested in a better quality of life for all.

¿Porque estás participando con Juntos?
Me interesa proteger la salud de las familias latinas y buscar oportunidades para la comunidad que permitan amplificar sus voces.

¿Qué ha aprendido mientras se organiza con la comunidad para la justicia ambiental?
Que la comunidad somos el Eje principal en cuestion de abogar x nuestros intereses y si estamos unidos podemos alcanzar nuestras metas individuales y colectivas.

¿Cuál es tu cosa favorita que has hecho mientras participabas con Juntos?
Facilitar el taller de Promotoras 3a. Generacion.

Si alguien donó un millón de dólares a Juntos, ¿qué debemos hacer con él?
Ver los intereses del programa para  realizar las metas colectivas de nuestros miembros en nuestra comunidad, como Jardín solar  Comunitario, o un jardin de productos orgánicos espectacular al alcance nuestra gente.

¿Qué es una cosa que quieres aprender a hacer?
Comunicarme 100% en inglés para tener cara a cara con políticos, o personas que están.

¿Qué deseo tienes para tu comunidad?
Mi liderazgo y compromiso como madre, esposa y persona que le interesa una mejor calidad de vida para todos.

Because I am interested in working with the community of Albuquerque.

What have you learned while organizing with the community for environmental justice?
I have learned the desire of the community to have a healthy environment not only for their families but also for all communities.

“Pedagogy of the Oppressed”

What is your favorite thing that you have done while participating with Juntos?
Working with mothers and young people.

If someone donated a million dollars to Juntos, what should we do with it?
Invest in the community and give them jobs to
create change that is not only effective but also
permanent.

What is one thing you want to learn to do?
How to create space for the community to make
decisions especially in places where there are only rich, documented, or Anglo people.

What do you want for your community?
Let it be a community with life, full of culture, healthy and dignified.

Porque me interesa trabajar con la comunidad de Albuquerque.

He aprendido las ganas que tiene la comunidad de tener un medio ambiente saludable no sólo para sus familias pero también para todas las comunidades.

Trabajar con madres de familia y jóvenes.

Si alguien donó un millón de dólares a Juntos, ¿qué debemos hacer con él?
Invertirlo en la comunidad y darles trabajos para crear un cambio no sólo efectivo pero también permanente.

¿Qué es una cosa que quieres aprender a hacer?
Como crear espacio para que la comunidad pueda tomar decisiones especialmente en lugares que solamente hay personas ricas, documentadas, y anglos.

¿Qué deseo tienes para tu comunidad?
Que sea una comunidad con vida, llena de cultura, saludable y digna.


Valerie Romero

Valerie Romero, Rio Arriba County Contract Organizer

Valerie Romero is the contracted Rio Arriba County Organizer for Conservation Voters New Mexico Education Fund.

Valerie has completed 107 credits towards her Bachelor’s of Social Work Degree, and is passionate about leveling the playing field. Prior education also includes graduation in 2013 with an Associate’s Degree in Business
Administration, and near completion of an Associate’s in Accounting Degree from local Higher Educational Opportunities. Other concentration areas of focus are: management, finance, and leadership.

Prior to contracting with CVNMEF starting in 2016, Valerie worked in mental and behavioral health, New Mexico state government including at the State Capitol, and early learning education. She is deeply rooted in community organizing, and brings her experience in tourism, mental and behavioral health, and leadership development to the organization.
